Opening Times

The Gilbert & George Centre is open with Gilbert & George’s ‘LONDON PICTURES’

General admission is free, however, some of our special events may require booking – for more information on our upcoming events click here.

Getting Here

Find us at 5a Heneage Street, London, E1 5LJ. Show on Google Maps.

By tube: Aldgate East (for District and Hammersmith & City lines) is a 5-minute walk away, Liverpool Street (for Central, Circle, Hammersmith & City, Elizabeth and Metropolitan lines, and Overground) is 10-minutes walk away, Shoreditch High Street (Overground) is 11-minute walk away, while Whitechapel (Elizabeth line and Overground) is 12-minute walk away.

By bus: Bus 242 stops at Folgate Street. Buses 15, 25, 115, 135, 205, 242 and 254 all stop at Aldgate East Station.

Buses 8, 11, 26, 35, 42, 47, 78, 135, 149, 205, and 388 all stop at Liverpool Street Station.

By bike: there are docking stations available for Santander Cycles at Fashion Street, Fournier Street, and Old Montague Street. You can also park your bicycle at The Centre if space is available on one of our bike racks.

By car: We are just outside the Congestion Charge Zone but plan your route carefully. There are very few pay-and-display parking spaces in the vicinity – to find available parking spaces you can use Parkopedia.

When planning a visit, we advise checking for any disruptions and road closures in advance.

Toilets

There are unisex toilets available at The Centre, including accessibility toilet and baby changing room. As these are limited in number, please allow sufficient time if you are taking a large group.

Storage Space

There are limited storage lockers located in Reception for smaller rucksacks and bags. Please note the lockers are available for the duration of your visit – please make sure that upon leaving the gallery you have collected all your belongings. We also ask that visitors do not bring any luggage to The Centre – this includes large/camping rucksacks and suitcases. Please do not leave valuables in the lockers.

There are also a small number of bike stands provided in our yard close to the Reception door.

Photography

Photography is permitted inside The Centre, though flash photography, filming your visit, tripods, selfie sticks and large cameras are not permitted. Please do not take photographs of other visitors or staff members without their permission. Photographs of the gallery and works in our exhibitions are permitted for visitors’ own private and non-commercial purposes.

School groups

Please be aware that we do not have any lunch spaces available. Weather permitting, our garden can be used as a space where the group wishes to take a break before or after entering the exhibition space. There are several parks close to The Centre which might provide an alternative lunch space in good weather (e.g. Christ Church Spitalfields grounds, Allen Gardens, Spitalfields City Farm, Vallance Gardens).
