Design Museum Patrons Visit

February 13

Last week we were delighted to welcome Design Museum patrons to a special evening at The Gilbert & George Centre which included an architectural tour, led by the Centre’s architect Manuel lrsara of SIRS Architects and concluded with an in conversation with Gilbert & George led by Tim Marlow.
The evening provided insights into the project’s history and its making and an opportunity for our guests to view our current exhibition, ‘LONDON PICTURES’ (2011).
SIRS Architects converted the former industrial building in London’s East End into Gilbert & George’s art foundation, breathing new life into the historic fabric of the area and seeking to immerse visitors in the unique realm of the artists through a sequence of spaces and built details. The project has been shortlisted for several awards, most recently the RIBA MacEwen Award 2025.
As a registered charity, The Gilbert & George Centre aims to become a leading cultural institution in London and a hub for research and scholarship on the art of Gilbert & George. The Centre opened its doors to the public in April 2023, and in keeping with Gilbert & George’s vision of an Art For All, the Centre’s admission is free.

Thank you to Tim Marlow – and the team at Design Museum, and Manuel for an insightful tour.
